Jackson Library Tower, Reserving Study Space, Lactation and Family Room

UNCG Libraries has a tower where the general collection of books are stored, but there is also a variety of study and different spaces located in these towers. The tower provides options for quiet study and group work, as well as technology to assist with collaboration and digital project creation. Some spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis, while others are reservable by UNCG students, faculty, and staff.

Reservable spaces require a UNCG username and password. Please be aware of the quiet study or group study expectations of the floor on which you are reserving space.

  • Small Student Study Rooms are available on Tower floors 2, 5 and 6. Rooms on Tower floor 2 contain PCs with double monitors while those on floors 5 and 6. You should also bring your own equipment.
  • Medium Group Spaces are available on Tower floors 2, 3 and 4. Spaces on floors 2 and 3 include flat-screen monitors with HDMI cords. All of these spaces are areas where you can bring your own equipment.
  • Large Group Spaces are available on Tower floors 2, 3 and 9. The spaces on floors 2 and 3 include flat-screen monitors with HDMI cords.. All of these spaces are areas where you can bring your own equipment.

Unless library hours exceptions apply, the tower is open for “Spartan study” from 9:00pm–1:00am, Sunday–Thursday and public patrons may not enter at these times. To enter, re-enter, or remain in the Library after 9pm, each individual must have a SpartanCard. Access is available by card tap only at the EUC-Library Connector entrance facing the Walker Ave. traffic circle. Please note that the 6-TECH Service Center/SuperLab may have different hours and closing times.

Tower floors 6-9 are designated as quiet study floors. They offer whiteboards, tables, booths, carrels, and other seating conducive to quiet study on a first-come, first-served basis. There should be no group study or conversations above a whisper here, cell phone ringers must be turned off, and headphones should be turned down. Small study rooms without PCs are available to be reserved on the 6th floor.

Tower floors 2-5, the elevator lobby on the lower level, and the Jackson Library information commons on the main floor are designated as group study areas. Group study is also welcome in the CITILab (at times), Reading Room, and Reference Room located on the main floor. These spaces offer whiteboards, tables, carrels, and other seating conducive to group study along with PCs with a mix of double and wide screen monitors. All spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The CITILab is open for individual use when not being used for class instruction.

The Rabbi Avi Magid Jewish Studies Room houses 1300 volumes from Rabbi Magid's personal library, collected over 40 years and generously donated to the University Libraries. The collection greatly enhances and supports the University's Judaica studies. All materials in the Jewish Studies Room may be checked out; the room also provides an attractive space for group study and collaboration. Reserve this space.

The Jackson Library Lactation Room in room 570 of the tower is a private space for students, staff, and visitors to pump or to breastfeed/chestfeed a baby. You may request the key from the Checkout Desk. In the tower there is also a reservable Family Room. This space is designed for patrons of Jackson Library who are accompanied by children. You must register before reserving this space; there is more information available online. Please check the Jackson Library operating hours before attempting to visit either room.
