O. Henry Statues in Downtown Greensboro

This group of bronze sculptures is located on the corner of North Elm and Bellemeade Streets in downtown Greensboro. Included are a life-size statue of the author, his dog (Lovey), and a large open book depicting three of his best-known short stories. The sculptures are the work of Maria J. Kirby-Smith and were unveiled on April 9, 1985, as part of the first annual O. Henry Festival. The festival takes place in Greensboro every April in honor of the life and works of William Sydney Porter (O. Henry) and is currently hosted by Greensboro College.
