Jim Casada grew up in Bryson City, North Carolina. Casada attended King College, B.A. in history; Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), M.A. in British history; and Vanderbilt University, Ph.D. in British imperial history. From 1972-1996, Casada taught history at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC. After retiring, Casada has worked as a full-time freelance writer/photographer.
