Library Spaces Introduction

You are currently in the module on "Library Spaces" in a larger tutorial. Each research tutorial includes modules of topics related to the overall tutorial learning objectives. Please go through all the pages in this module by clicking on the “Next” button on the bottom of the page in order to progress. If you would like to track your progress, be sure to log in with your UNCG credentials at the top right of the module. Each module includes Quick Checks on every page. UNCG Libraries has a variety of spaces for research, study, instruction, and technology. The Libraries provide options for quiet study and group work, as well as technologies to assist with collaboration and digital project creation. Some spaces are available on a first come, first served basis while others are able to be reserved ahead of time by UNCG students, faculty, and staff. Wireless connection is available in most of the spaces. This module will help you understand the different types of spaces and link to you information about each space. Here we will discuss the physical spaces of UNCG Libraries, but we also offer many virtual spaces through the website. 

UNCG Libraries are open to the public during certain hours of the day. At other times, our spaces are only accessible to students, faculty, and staff. There is more information on the hours of operation page.. You may wish to familiarize yourself with the policies to which all patrons should adhere when accessing our spaces. Most of this module pertains to Walter Clinton Jackson Library, aka Jackson Library, located at 320 College Avenue. You will find spaces also in the Harold Schiffman Music Library and the Teaching Resource Center.

UNCG Libraries acknowledge that the land we are gathered on has long served as the site of meeting and exchange amongst a number of Indigenous peoples, specifically the Keyauwee and Saura. Additionally, North Carolina has been home to many Indigenous peoples at various points in time, including the tribes of: Bear River/Bay River, Cape Fear, Catawba, Chowanoke, Coree/Coranine, Creek, Croatan, Eno, Hatteras, Keyauwee, Machapunga, Moratoc, Natchez, Neusiok, Pamlico, Shakori, Sara/Cheraw, Sissipahaw, Sugeree, Wateree, Weapemeoc, Woccon, Yadkin, and Yeopim. Today, North Carolina recognizes 8 tribes: Coharie, Lumbee, Meherrin, Occaneechi Saponi, Haliwa Saponi, Waccamaw Siouan, Sappony, and the Eastern Band of Cherokee.We honor and respect the diverse Indigenous peoples connected to this territory on which we gather.
